What is the difference between a coaching and therapy?
Therapy is typically focused on the past where a therapist will have you talk about past traumas to determine the cause of your current struggles and issues. Coaching is forward focused and while we may need to touch on past issues to get you moving forward, it is not the "main" focus of our work together. As a coach, I believe that is important to be aware of where our struggles and stumbling blocks may come from but if you are needing to heal deep, emotional wounds and scars, therapy is probably a better route for you to go, at least in the beginning. Some clients come to seek coaching because their experiences in therapy began to feel like groundhog day...focusing on and talking about their past and "how that made them feel" over and over again without making any progress and without getting any real tools to help them move forward and start to create a successful life.

What makes a good coach?
Choosing a coach is a very personal decision and your coach should be someone that you trust and that you feel completely comfortable with. Any good coach should be able to listen carefully to what is being said as well as what is not being said and then gently guide you by asking the right questions that will give you the insight that is needed to create a life plan that is right for you. A good coach is going to be kind and caring while also challenging you and getting you out of your comfort zone. A good coach is going to provide support, encouragement, accountability and will enlighten your mind with new perspectives that motivate new behaviors.

What can I expect from our session?
Before our first session, I will have you fill out a pre-session questionnaire so that I can get to know about you and your needs which will allow us to make the most of our very first session together. Sessions are done over the phone or Zoom and last 60 minutes. Sessions will vary depending on what is going on in your life and where you need the most guidance and support at any given time but typically sessions will consist of a recap of the previous session so I can find out where you are currently at so that we can then determine together what the next logical step(s) in achieving your goals may be. We will also discuss any challenges you may have faced since our last session and how we can work to move past those issues moving forward. Finally, we will set up an action plan for you to work on going forward and before we meet again.

How many sessions will I need & how often?
This really depends on where you are at in your life and what issues you need help navigating. There are no "rules" however, it is important to understand that this is not an overnight process and it does take time to unravel all of the dynamics that have brought you to where you are now as well as to determine the steps that it will take to get you to where you want to go. It is recommended that you start out with at least six sessions either weekly or every other week. From that point, we can clearly determine if we are a good fit and you are making progress and where you want to go from there.
